Technology Solutions

Finding the right solutions

Every customer will have differing energy requirements, issues, and opportunities to reduce or off-set emissions. Susenco is not wedded to any particular technology, supplier, or installer, which allows us to ensure the customer’s best interests are considered at all times.

Our team includes specialists in almost every area of energy efficiency or renewable technologies, with years of experience in delivering these solutions into different sectors of the market.

Susenco can offer advice, support, delivery, project management, servicing, and funding for virtually all energy efficiency, energy purchasing, or renewable requirements. These include:

Measurement
  • Energy Audit
  • Carbon footprint
  • Metering
  • Buying
  • Energy Performance Certificates
Energy Efficiency
  • Energy efficiency in buildings, including insulation, draft proofing, glazing and lighting
  • Energy efficiency in processes
  • Heating systems including heat pumps, biomass and combined heat and power (CHP)
Renewable & Low Carbon Generation
  • Large and small wind
  • Micro-Hydro
  • Photo-Voltaics
  • Biomass
  • Anaerobic Digestion
  • Combined Heat & Power (CHP)

We often get asked to a site because someone wants a specific new technology. Whilst we are there, other opportunities for cost and emissions savings become obvious. The best strategy for a site is likely to include something from all of these menus.

Measurement is important because what you can’t measure you can’t manage. The best measurement technologies allow real-time analysis and integrate into your Information technology systems so it is easily available. Often once people understand what energy is used and when, energy demand can be cut by 5-10% by turning down heating or turning off lighting or equipment when it is not needed. We can work with your staff to develop a programme of measurement and actions to save you money.

Measurement can also identify technology options, help to size an installation, and later on, demonstrate the savings actually achieved by an installation.

Energy efficiency measures are almost always cost effective. For example, if you are considering biomass, the heat load can always be reduced through improved efficiency, meaning a smaller (and less expensive) boiler is needed. Or if you want to install photovoltaics, it is important to make sure that you are not at the same time wasting electricity through inefficient equipment and wasteful behaviour.

Renewable and low carbon generation has been strongly incentivised by the introduction of Feed-In Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive. For example wind can now have a payback of 4-6 years. Photovoltaics which until recently struggled to pay for themselves, now pay back in 8-12 years. Biomass could be as low as 2.5 years. Of course, once paid back each of these examples will continue to generate income and carbon savings for up to 25 years. There has never been a better time to install renewables.

The best strategy for a site is likely to include something from all of these menus. By combining measures, you can benefit from the multiplier effect. For example, if you halve energy use, double energy efficiency, and halve the carbon in the supply, costs and emissions could be reduced to only an eighth of the previous consumption (a half, of a half, of a half). On some sites, the renewables potential may be so significant that zero net carbon emissions for the site can be achieved. Sometimes, zero net carbon emissions for new developments needs installations on adjacent or remote sites.

Every site is different. We would be happy to bring our strategic, technological and financial expertise to your site. Click here for our contact details.
